Trash Collection
Please note that Potomac Disposal is now GFL Environment, the trash collection contractor for Fountain Hills Community Association. Trash will only be collected from the trash cans that the contractor provides. GFL will not collect trash that is in other trash cans or that is in plastic bags. The weekly service day will be Thursdays. Please note that these changes are generated by the contractor and not the Board of Directors or our management company, D.H. Bader.
Frequently Asked Questions
- The changes to trash collection service do not affect those who live in Fountain Hills Condominium. There are no changes to trash collection procedures or service at Fountain Hills Condominium. As a reminder, residents who do not live in the Fountain Hills Condominiums are not permitted to use the trash corrals that are located on the condominium property.
- The trash collection contractor will collect existing trash cans on normal trash collection days. They advise that you must place a sign on the trash can if you want it collected. The sign must read, (Please throw away this trash can). The crew will not take the trash can if the sign only reads “Trash”. (Note, the contractor is not able to collect old trash cans from every home in one day. If they don’t collect it the first time, please continue to put it out on another trash day if it is not taken the first time. They will get to it eventually).
- It is okay to place plastic bags of trash in the new trash cans. You cannot however place trash out only in plastic bags. The contractor will only collect trash that is inside the new trash cans. They will not collect bags of trash that are outside of the trash cans. Everything must fit inside the existing cans.
- Residents can rent an additional automation-compatible trash can for $5.00 per month, billed individually to the residence. Call 301-294-9700 to request a second trash can/toter.
For the time being, we will not be enforcing any violations related to the new trash cans. Again, we understand your frustration. We get it. None of us are happy about these changes. We’re your neighbors and we live in this community too. This change impacts us as much as it impacts everyone else. Our work on the board is entirely on a volunteer basis and we depend on help from everyone to help keep things moving along. Please participate in our monthly meetings with any ideas or suggestions. We value your feedback as a board, we really do.

Homeowner Property Maintenance
Remember, homeowners must keep their property and any improvements in good order and repair and free of debris. No items are to be stored in front of the house, lawns/shrubs are to be cut as needed, and bikes and toys are to be stored out of view when not in use. The Enforcement Committee will be inspecting properties and notices will be sent for any violations.
Rodent Control
There is an issue with rats in the community that will require assistance from residents to eradicate. It is important that everyone ensure there are no food sources outside their homes for rats. Trash should not be placed outside in plastic bags, pet food bowls should not be left outside, and any clutter should be removed from outside your homes. Additionally, residents should never place food out for stray animals as it attracts rats. Go to this website for more information about preventing rats.
Trash and Recycling
All materials prepared for collection must not be set out earlier than 5:00pm the day before your collection day. Recycling containers must be removed from the collection location no later than 5:00pm the day after.
County collection regulations require that all materials prepared for collections must be at curbside no later than 7:00am on your designated trash and/or recycling day. Please also be aware that trash and recycling containers are not to be stored outside on non-collection days, nor are they allowed to be stored on common area property. For more information, please download our Community Trash and Recycling Procedures.

Policy Resolution for Parking and Storage of Vehicles
The Board has approved a Policy Resolution for Parking and Storage of Vehicles which will govern all HOA-maintained parking spaces in the community. All residents are encouraged to read this policy and report any violations to IKO Community Management.
For safety reasons, please do not park on the sidewalks as this blocks the sidewalks and forces residents to walk on the street. In addition, please obey all “No Parking” and “Fire Lane” signs. We have active towing throughout the community and vehicles will be towed. Play it safe and park properly!
Speeding in the Community
County law specifies a speed limit of 20 mph on private roads without posted speed limit signs. Help keep our community safe and please obey all stop signs and the community’s 20 mph speed limit.
